Wow! I can’t believe summer is almost over!!
Every year, summers seem to go by faster and this year is no exception. Between weekend markets and art walks, entertaining visitors from the Czech Republic, enjoying our grandsons visits (one of them wants to be a pilot so we took him flying in an open-air biplane at the Reynolds Museum and in a Cessna), attending a wedding in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan … it’s been a very busy summer. Oh, and I mustn’t forget the introductory work held at the George Pegg Botanic Garden. Five ladies attended the workshop and created wonderful sculptures (See Student Works below).
As the kids start planning another school year I, too, am starting to book workshops for the fall season.
See below for information on workshops offered.
Come … Discover what Paverpol is all about. Discover your inner artist.
Paverpol is the number one textile - and decoration hardener! It is harmless to people, animals, plants and the environment. Only this first class product has a global safety hallmark! It is waterproof and adhesive and becomes rock hard when dry. Artists, hobbyists, schools and other groups use it to their complete satisfaction.

Spring is coming!
Although the thermometer outside my kitchen window said otherwise this morning, registering the temperature at -29, spring really is coming. This theory is supported by the longer days and the different species of birds appearing at the feeders. The redpolls and nuthatches have joined the chickadees and woodpeckers; they keep me busy refilling their feeders.
Those of you who, like me, enjoying spending time in their yards and gardens are anxiously awaiting the warmth of the spring sun and looking forward to watch the new growth unfold when the snow melts. You’ve probably started some seeds already in anticipation of spring planting. Why not think of other things to decorate your yard this summer. Why not a heron? Or some tall birds? Or little persons sitting atop bird houses? Perhaps some bird feeders or birdbaths or butterfly basins. All of these can be made using Paverpol.
See below for information on workshops offered.

How to use Paverpol
A unique property of Paverpol is its fast drying time. This makes it possible to make a finished object in one day, for example a garden sculpture. Paverpol dries completely transparent. Heat, from a hairdryer for example, will speed up the drying time. Colored textiles, possibly with a pattern, retain their original brightness. By adding colored powder (Pavercolor) to the transparent Paverpol, it can be colored without slowing down the drying time. For example, you can dye white textiles any color you like. Pavercolor is now available in 27 colors. The colors can be combined to make a vast range of shades. Paverpol is also available in four pre-mixed colors: black, grey, skin color and bronze. Always stir thoroughly before using the premixed Paverpol.
Natural materials dipped in Paverpol are fire retardant. For a sculpture meant to be placed outside, preferably use weather-resistant paint. This can be acrylic or oil paint. Using outdoor paint it is not necessary to varnish the object. However, if the object is not painted but meant to be placed outside, we do recommend to varnish it after it has hardened completely. This will prevent it from moulding at higher humidity-levels. Leave the object for at least one week inside to harden completely, before placing it outside. Paverpol does not stick to synthetics such as plastics.
Paverpol in it's liquid form must be protected from frost. Once it has hardened, however, Paverpol is able to withstand extreme frost. Tools and hands can simply be washed in warm water. There is no need to wear gloves.

Believe in the Artist in You!
Let go of the idea you "can't do art". Paverpol and the techniques taught in my workshops make it easy for you to express your creativity. Simply keep an open mind and you will amaze yourself ... and have lots of fun too.
This is what one of my students posted on my Facebook page after spending a day with five others.
Paverpol is a unique hobby material. It is a textile hardener that allows you to make statues, both for indoors and outdoors, as well as abstract objects, wall decorations, vases, bowls, animals, jewellery, and masks. It offers endless possibilities to give shape to your creativity. It is a water based, decoration and textile hardener that dries hard and, once cured, sculptures can be left in your garden all year long, regardless of the weather. The fact that it is non-toxic and water based means it's good for the environment. And should your four-legged family members happen to get too close to your creations, they will not be harmed. The sculpture may be but your pet won't.
Relax while using art as a medium. You will find that by focussing your whole attention on the creative process, you will let go of the pressures of life for the day and you will leave refreshed.

- I would like to comment on my day, yesterday at your studio. First of all, you and all the ladies were fun, generous with their support, which made the day great. But most of all I was so surprised with what I made, I am the most non artistic, non talented person, and I was very pleased with what I made. You were generous with your help, but also in a nice way made us complete the project on our own. Thanks again, it was fun.

Mother Nature warned us early in October that winter was coming but then generously allowed us to continue experiencing fall-like temperatures until the beginning of December. Now that we are only a few weeks away from the shortest day of the year, temperatures are plummeting and the cold northerly winds remind us that, those of us living in central/northern Alberta need to be ready for winter weather.
With the colder temperatures come beautiful, clear sunny days and I, a sun worshipper in all seasons, prefer the colder temperatures and sunny days to the warm, gloomy days Mother Nature provided for us in November. And I look forward to the days getting longer once we get passed the Christmas week. For me, that is a strong indicator that winter is on its way out and spring is just a few months away.
Once we get passed the Christmas week and the New Year celebrations, perhaps you would like to invest in some creative time. Why not get some friends together and join me for a day of fun and creativity.
Come …
Discover what Paverpol is all about
Discover your inner artist.
What exactly is Paverpol
Paverpol is a unique textile hardener. It offers endless possibilities to give shape to your creativity. Paverpol allows you to make statues, both for indoors and outdoors, as well as abstract objects, wall decorations, vases, bowls, animals, jewellery and masks. New ideas come up every day. And the most fun thing is: everyone can do it!
Paverpol has achieved the American AP quality symbol. This means that it is 100% safe for humans, animals and the environment. It is made exclusively water-based.
Paverpol adheres to all natural materials. You can use all sorts of materials, such as wool, cotton, wood, leather, paper, silk, self-hardening clay, polystyrene, dried flowers, wood, plaster and earthenware. It makes these materials totally stiff.
What can I make with Paverpol
There are many possibilities and users keep finding new ways of using Paverpol. You can make for both indoor and outdoor figurines, abstract objects, wall art, vases, decorative items, animals, jewelry, masks. The list is endless.
From t-shirt to garden object
It is that simple, you can turn a simple fabric into an amazing outdoor object. Paverpol is a one-coat medium. Usually fibers are dipped in Paverpol and wrapped around a sturdy base. After two weeks of indoor curing the object can be placed outside.

Students’ Works/Testimonials
My grandsons were my first students. Kaiden pushed me beyond my limits with his wish to build a dog. And he wanted a picture frame to use for the photo of his pet cat who had just lost a battle with a coyote. Brennen was not interested in building a sculpture … he wanted to do something abstract.
Here is what my adult students had to say about their first class:
"I am still on cloud nine after taking a class with you, and really was spoiled to have all of your attention yesterday. Thank you again for your instruction, ideas and patience. I am really proud of my little three-feathered girl named Raven." Leslie
"Took a Paverpol sculpting class today at April Designs. It was so much fun. Wasn't sure what I was going to be making out of wire and tinfoil Inspiration came from a dear friend I lost to cancer this summer that I keep dreaming about." Debbie
"Took a Paverpol class with Jocelyne April. What an amazing day!" Donna
"I never dreamed I would have a piece that I would be excited to have in my home, you truly are a great teacher. I will definitely like to make another piece with you in the future. Thank you again for a great day." Lorraine

1st Class a huge success
Although I've had the pleasure to work with a few students on a one-on-one basis, I hosted my first class on Friday, November 4th. Five ladies came; some friends from my golf league, some from yoga, one from my choir group and the other a friend of a friend.
Paverpol was new to most of them; some had heard of it but had never had the opportunity to work with the product. They didn't have a vision of what they were going to create. As I had advised, they came with an open mind, brought their imagination and willingness to have fun and be creative.
Everyone started with the same 'skeleton', used the same material and products for all sculptures, but at the end of the day, after lots of fun and creativity, everyone went home with a unique they were '"proud to display in their home" as Lorraine said. Thanks ladies for being part of my first class and for making it such a great day.

The week prior, I spent a day with another student. Again, we started with the same 'skeleton', used the same material and product and process. But this time, the student had a vision in mind; she wanted to create a little cowgirl. As the day progressed, however, the sculpture morphed from a little cowgirl to a little Native American girl. Raven is her name.
Being willing to let sculptures show you who they want to be is a big part of creating. Wonderful job, Leslie, for letting your creativity live through your sculpture.

News from April Designs Studio
I was at the Magnolia Christmas Artisan and Trade Fair on the weekend. What a wonderful event put on by the ladies of Magnolia. Anita ... thank you so much for all your hard work. And what a beautiful fall day Mother Nature provided for us. After a few weeks of snow and cold, it's nice to have the sun shine on us again.
Hilda and Selena, my friendly witches caused quite a stir. And my friendly little snowman with the cowboy hat was one of the first to leave the table. I'm sure he's very happy in his new home. Laura was the winner of the 1/2 price registration for an Introductory Workshop; she and her friends will soon be creating their own sculptures. I'm sure we'll have lots of laughs when we get together. The November 4th workshop filled up fast so I opened up other dates. October 29th is almost full. November 5th is still open. So if you want to create something unique for that special person on your Christmas shopping list, give me a call and we'll set something up. I will be displaying my works at the following markets. Hope to see you there. Kinnette Christmas Market, Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre - November 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Carvel Christmas Market, November 20, 2016 Stony Plain Christmas Market, November 27, 2016 Alberta Beach Christmas Market, December 11, 2016 Talk again soon.
